Stafford Borough Council required a comprehensive
tree survey and management system to ensure it's tree stock remained safe. All councils and land owners have a health and safety responsibility to ensure its trees are
appropriately managed.
The £120,000 project required the procurement of tree inspection software, commissioning of the software, the procurement of tree surveyors and interpretation and management of the works.
Arbortrak was procured as the software solution with Gristwood and Toms procured to survey the trees within the borough. This software is designed specifically for the
management of trees and required further configuration to meet the needs of the
council. Once installed I managed the system and trained officers in the use of
the system.
As part of the procurement I specified the survey
parameters within the tender to ensure consistency with the
new software solution. Gristwood and Toms were only procured to survey the councils
trees and not to undertake any work. All required work was completed in house
by the council own arboricultural team. This ensured that the council could
check the results of the survey.
Upon completion of the survey I project managed the
councils arborists to complete the works identified within specific timescales
as directed by the risk the tree posed. Regular progress reports were written
for the directors and councillors.
